Great news for Top End fishermen with the Territory Government today officially opening the $3.2 million Hudson Creek Boat Ramp.

Government Minister, Rob Knight said the new state of the art ramp will be open to boaties from today and will replace the old East Arm ramp.

“The Henderson Government provided this funding of $3.2 million because the Top End is an important fishing tourist destination which generates jobs for Territorians,” Mr Knight said.

“Darwin Harbour is among the most popular destinations for anglers so the location of this boat ramp is ideal for providing families with the opportunity to spend the day on our harbour.”

Mr Knight said the Hudson Creek boat ramp is 63.7 metres long and has double lanes. A floating pontoon has been installed to make launching easier with anglers no longer having to get their feet wet.

“The facility includes shade and seating and the pontoon is a great feature of the new ramp, enabling easier access for families, seniors and disabled anglers,” he said.

“It also has solar lighting, reducing energy costs and allowing anglers to launch and retrieve their boats at night.

“The ramp will be able to be used during lower tides than the existing ramp at East Arm, enabling better access for fishermen.”

Built by local company Ostojic, construction is almost complete with lighting to be connected and a toilet block to follow soon.

“Fishing is more popular in the NT than anywhere else in Australia - it’s the lure of the Territory and part of our unique lifestyle.”
